Botulinum Toxin for Bruxism
Reduce jaw tension, pain, and dental wear caused by bruxism.
Duration of effect: 4-6 months · Session: 15-20 minutes
Bruxism (clenching or grinding teeth, often during sleep) overloads the masseter muscle, causing jaw pain, tension headaches, dental wear, and, in visible cases, a widened facial oval. Botulinum toxin in the masseter reduces involuntary muscle contraction, relieving tension and pain without affecting normal chewing at the appropriate doses.
Who is this for?
- Bruxism, especially nocturnal.
- Recurrent jaw pain or tension.
- Tension headaches associated with teeth clenching.
- Progressive dental wear from muscle overload.
- Masseter hypertrophy.
It's common to combine this with a night guard prescribed by a dentist.
Results: The effect lasts between 4 and 6 months. Many patients also notice a more defined facial oval as the enlarged masseter shrinks.
Step by step, your comfort first
Preparation
We assess your case, palpating the masseter muscle during contraction to locate the exact points.
Application
Several micro-injections in each masseter. Quick session: 15-20 minutes, minimal discomfort.
Afterwards
Normal activity immediately. The effect becomes noticeable gradually between the first and second week.
Before you decide
Is it painful?
Discomfort is minimal, comparable to a superficial pinprick. No anaesthesia is required.
Does it affect the ability to chew?
No, not when applied at the appropriate doses by an experienced physician.
When is the effect noticeable?
Gradually between the first and second week, with full effect by around the third.
Does it replace a night guard?
Not necessarily; in many cases combining both approaches is recommended.
