Botulinum Toxin for Hyperhidrosis
Control excessive sweating in the underarms, hands, or feet safely and for the long term.
Sweat reduction cited: up to 80-90% · Duration of effect: 6-9 months · Session: 20-30 minutes
Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that goes beyond the physiological need to regulate body temperature. Botulinum toxin is a well-established medical treatment for primary hyperhidrosis (underarm, palmar, or plantar), effective when conventional antiperspirants aren't enough. It temporarily blocks the neurotransmitter that activates the sweat glands, reducing sweating by up to 80-90%.
Who is this for?
- Underarm hyperhidrosis (the most common), palmar, or plantar.
- Excessive sweating that doesn't improve with conventional antiperspirants.
- Social, professional, or emotional impact caused by excessive sweating.
Not recommended if: you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you have a diagnosed neuromuscular disease, or there is an active infection in the area.
Results: The reduction is noticeable within a few days, with full effect by around 2 weeks. It lasts between 6 and 9 months, after which it's recommended to repeat treatment.
Step by step, your comfort first
Preparation
We assess the area to be treated; in some cases an iodine-starch test is done to map out the area of heaviest sweating.
Application
Multiple superficial micro-injections spread across the area. Session: 20-30 minutes, minimal discomfort.
Afterwards
You can resume your activities immediately. It's recommended to avoid intense exercise for the first 24 hours.
Before you decide
Is it painful?
Discomfort is minimal; if treating the palms, a more sensitive area, we can apply topical anaesthetic.
Does sweating ‘shift’ to other areas?
It's possible (compensatory sweating) but uncommon when treating the underarms, hands, or feet locally.
How long does the effect last?
On average between 6 and 9 months, depending on the individual and the area treated.
Does the treated area stop sweating completely?
Not necessarily one hundred percent, but the reduction is usually very noticeable.
